March 13, 2016 | Women's Track and Field
IRVINE, Calif. – The Army West Point women's track and field team competed at UC Irvine's Anteater Four-Way on Saturday, placing third with 32 points.
"I thought the meet went pretty well today," said Director of Track and Field and Cross Country Mike Smith. "We came out here to get good weather and develop a level of consistency in our training. We saw solid opening marks pretty much across the board."
Freshman Abby Halbrook posted one of Army's three individual titles of the day in the 1500m run. She was joined by fellow freshmen Cassie Mundekis and Payton Padgett in the top-three.
Genna Murray placed first in the 400-meter hurdles with a 1:08.00, edging Abby Vorhaus who finished second.
Briyah Brown won the shot put with a toss of 14.24 meters, while Cody Rothschild and Shelby Jacob placed fifth in their throwing events. Rothschild threw her discus 45.63 meters while Jacob tossed a javelin 36.16 meters.
The Black Knights saw some success in the jumps as well, placing four in the top-five total. Meagan Hilla placed second in the high jump after clearing a height of 1.60m. Anna Motes, Tyatianna Johnson and Cori Lemere enjoyed playing in the sand box as Motes came away with a second-place finish in the triple jump. Johnson finished third, .2 meters behind Motes. Lemere was fifth in the long jump with a leap of 5.34m.
Army will remain in the Golden State for another week before taking part in the UC Irvine Spring Break Invitational March 18-19.
