Women’s Track Takes Sixth at Donahue Games
January 22, 2016 | Women's Track and Field
BOSTON, Mass. – The Army West Point women's track and field team placed sixth out of 14 teams at the Joe Donahue Games, hosted by Northeastern, on Friday.
"We had a pretty good meet tonight," said Director of Track and Field and Cross Country Mike Smith. "We put some of our athletes in different events to see how they would respond, and the results were pretty good. We were also using this meet to evaluate our potential roster for the Navy dual and the Patriot League Championships. The most outstanding performance of the night belonged to Abby and Cassie in the mile, who finished one-two after being seeded 15th and 16th."
The Black Knights were led by a pair of freshmen in the mile run. Abby Halbrook took home first place in the event with a time of 4:56.51 while Cassie Mundekis finished second after crossing the finish line at 4:57.25. Two more Cadets also placed in the top-10 in the 400 meter dash and the 800 meter run. Freshman Sudney Hawkins placed seventh in the 400 meters with a time of 58.66. Courtney Dooley finished the 800 meter run in 10th, crossing the finish line at 2:20.47.
In the field events, Briyah Brown continues to shine in the shot put, placing sixth with a toss of 13.41 meters. She was joined by Meagan Hilla, who finished fourth in the triple jump with a leap of 11.31 meters.
Army will return to action on Saturday, Jan. 30, as it travels back to State College, Pa., for the Penn State National Invitational.
