Women’s Track Wins Twice in Final Day at Va Tech

Blacksburg, Va. – The Army West Point women's track and field team came away from the second and final day of the Virginia Tech Invitational with a pair of wins by Briyah Brown and Lindsay Gabow on Saturday at Rector Field House.
"I thought we competed well today against some quality opponents," said Director of Track and Field and Cross Country Mike Smith. "I was really impressed with some of our throws this weekend. Briyah Brown backed up her solid weight performance yesterday by winning the shot put."
Brown came out on top in shot put after her mark of 14.01 meters. Gabow bested her competition in the 5000-meter run with a time of 17:48.14. Cody Rothschild joined Brown in the top-five in the shot put, recording a 12.34 meter toss.
Cassie Mundekis continues to star in her young career, placing second in the 800-meter run after crossing the finish line at 2:15.78. Haley Winters also placed sixth in the 400-meter run with a time of 57.94.
Meagan Hilla took home third place in the high jump, clearing the bar at 1.68 meters.
Army returns to action on Saturday, Jan. 23, as the team travels up to Boston, Mass., for the Joe Donahue Games.
