Army Football Top Moments: Number 7
October 28, 2015 | Football, Athletics
WEST POINT, N.Y. - In celebration of 125 years of Army football, the Army Athletic Association is counting down the top 10 moments in program history each Wednesday during the remainder of the 2015 football season. A fan vote and a panel of athletic department officials combined to determine the list of top moments.
Number 7 - Andrew Rodriguez wins the Campbell Trophy and Sullivan Award
One of the most decorated cadet-athletes in Army football history, Andrew Rodriguez won the 2011 Campbell Trophy and the 2012 Sullivan Award following an outstanding senior season in 2011.
Rodriguez led Army in tackles during his sophomore season in 2009 before missing out on the 2010 campaign with a severe back injury. He returned to start 11 games as a senior and led the 2011 team in takeaways.
Rodriguez became the first Army football player to win the William V. Campbell Trophy, awarded by the National Football Foundation to college football's top scholar athlete, taking into account academic success, football performance and community leadership.
The following spring, Rodriguez joined Army football legends Doc Blanchard and Arnold Tucker, as the only Black Knights to win the prestigious Sullivan Award, given by the Amateur Athletic Union to the nation's top amateur athlete, based on the qualities of leadership, character, sportsmanship and the ideals of amateurism.
