EASTON, Pa. - Freshman Megan Wilton recorded a game-high 16 kills, and senior setter Karyn Powell had a double-double with 35 assists along with 10 digs as the Black Knights romped to a 3-0 win over Lafayette in a Patriot League volleyball match Friday evening. The Black Knights, in second place in the conference, improved to 14-10 overall and 7-1 in the league, while Lafayette slipped to 4-18 and 0-8.
Army won all three matches in convincing style, rolling to a one-sided 25-6 decision in the first set followed by a 25-17 win in the second before wrapping it up with a 25-14 victory.
D.J. Phee added 10 digs as Army recorded 61 to the Leopards 44 along with a game-high 38 kills.
The Black Knights got six kills from junior OH Fabiola Castro, while head coach and two-time Patriot League Coach of the Year was able to utilize a deep lineup throughout the match. Reigning Patriot League Player and Rookie of the Year OH Ariana Mankus played just one set, but still managed two kills and four digs. Freshman RS Margaux Jarka and senior MB Rachel Willis added four kills apiece. Willis played all three sets for the first time this season, rebounding from a knee injury with a season-best kill mark.
Senior L Brittany Jensen led all players with 16 digs, while the Black Knights out-dug Lafayette (61-44) and held the Leopards to a -.113 hitting percentage. The Army defense also totaled five blocks to the Leopards' two.
