WEST POINT, N.Y. - Two days removed from a pair of standout performances, freshman Olivia Fairfield garnered Molten Patriot League Rookie of the Week honors on Monday afternoon.
Fairfield led all players in kills (17) and hitting percentage (.708) in the Black Knights' 3-0 win over Navy Saturday night at West Point. The Iowa City, Iowa, native committed zero errors on 14 swings against Navy and only two errors in 16 attempts versus Lafayette on Friday night.
Between both matches, Fairfield averaged 3.33 kills and 1.00 blocks per set while hitting .455 in two league wins. She hit .524 with 14 kills in Friday's straight-sets win over Lafayette. Her hitting percentage against the Mids was the highest for any player in league matches so far this season and second highest in all contests among League student-athletes. This week's certificate marks the second straight Rookie of the Week honors for Fairfield and the third honor in the 2013 season.
Along with Fairfield's citation, senior middle blocker Megan Wilton earned Patriot League Honorable Mention laurels. Wilton averaged 3.33 kills and 1.00 blocks per set while hitting .455 in two league wins with an average hitting percentage of .524 and 14 kills in Friday's win over Lafayette.
Finishing out the three-match homestand, Army returns to Gillis Field House on Tuesday, Oct. 15.
