CENTRAL VALLEY, Pa. -
Two days after recording match highs in kills, digs and hitting percentage, Army senior Ariana Mankus garnered Molten Patriot League Player of the Week honors on Monday afternoon.
Mankus led all players in kills (13), digs (12) and hitting (.667) in the Black Knights' 3-0 win over Holy Cross Saturday night at West Point. The Lisle, Ill., committed just one error on 18 swings and averaged 4.33 kills and 4.00 digs per set. She tallied three block assists and three service aces as well. This marks Mankus' second weekly honor of the season, with both coming in the last three weeks.
A three-time all-league pick, this marks Mankus' seventh career Patriot League Player of the Week nod. Army has dominated the Patriot League weekly awards this season, copping five out of the possible seven Player of the Week certificates.
Along with Mankus' citation, freshman middle blocker Zoe Kreitenberg earned Patriot League Honorable Mention laurels. Making her seventh start of the season, Kreitenberg totaled seven kills and hit for a .429 percentage in the win ver Holy Cross.
Army's victory gave the Black Knights sole possession of second place in the Patriot League standings with a 4-1 mark. The team is one game behind first-place Colgate (5-0).
Midway through an eight-match homestand, Army returns to Gillis Field House for a pair of matches next weekend. The Black Knights host Lehigh on Friday, Oct. 12, at 7 p.m. before welcoming Lafayette to town on Saturday, Oct. 13, at 7:30 p.m. Army will celebrate Alumni Weekend and Dig Pink on Saturday night against the Leopards. Fans are encouraged to wear pink to the match in support of breast cancer awareness.
