WEST POINT, N.Y. –The Army volleyball team will compete in two Patriot League matches over the weekend. The Black Knights (5-8, 2-1 Patriot League) will play Loyola (4-11, 1-2) on Friday, Oct. 4 and American (17-1, 3-0) on Saturday Oct. 5. Both matches will be available via webcast as links are accessible through the home team’s website.
Playing its fourth and fifth conference matches this weekend respectively, the Black Knights are in search of their 15th Patriot League tournament berth. Senior co-captain D.J. Phee ranks second for digs in the league with 249 digs and 4.79 digs per set. Senior co-captain Margaux Jarka, sophomore Vanessa Edwards and freshman Olivia Fairfield also rank on among the conference’s top performers.
The 2011 champions, American, leads the league heading into the weekend’s events, while three individuals lead the statistical boards for hitting percentage, kills and assists. The Eagles are coming off a 3-0 sweep over Loyola on Tuesday, Oct. 2. American holds a 27-6 lead in the all-time series.
This will be the first time the Black Knights play Loyola for a league match, as the Eagles are new to the Patriot League. Loyola joined the Patriot League as a full member on July 1, 2013, as the 2013-2014 academic year will be the Greyhounds’ first in the conference.
The match versus Loyola will be played in Baltimore, Md., and will begin at 7 p.m. Saturday’s match against American will start at 4 p.m. in Washington D.C.
