Army Sweeps Marist In Poughkeepsie
In its final tune-up before heading to the nation's capital to take part in the inaugural Armed Forces Tournament at the Pentagon, the Army volleyball team swept Hudson Valley rival Marist on Wednesday night at the McCann Center. The Red Foxes had no answer for junior middle blocker Megan Wilton, who posted 18 kills and hit for a .406 percentage in a 25-22, 25-23, 25-17 Black Knight victory.

“We are excited to welcome Marist to the Gillis Field House,” said head coach Alma Kovaci. “They are a very well-balanced team and we look forward to the competition. At this stage of the season, we are looking to get better and focus on our side of the court. It is exciting to see that our game is improving every time we step onto the court. The coaching staff is confident that our team will give its absolute best and you can count on it being an exciting match for us as well as the fans.”

Marist comes into the meeting with a 1-2 record. The Red Foxes were shutout by both Loyola, who joined the Patriot League in 2013 and Eastern Illinois. The team had their first 3-1 win of the season against Toledo on Aug. 31.

Army came out to sweep the Red Foxes, 3-0, last fall. Senior middle blocker Megan Wilton showed big numbers with 18 kills and a .406 hitting percentage. Junior Molly McDonald also contributed nine kills and junior setter Mary Vaccaro had 37 assists in last year’s meeting.

The match against the Red Foxes will kickoff at 7 p.m. and will be broadcast on Knight Vision. Admission is free to the public.
