Sophomore Margaux Jarka reached double-figure kills for the fourth time this season as she paced Army with 10 kills in a 3-0 win at Bucknell in Patriot League volleyball action on Friday night at Davis Gym.
The Black Knights took the first two sets by identical 25-21 scores before taking the match with a dominating 25-15 triumph in the third set.
Jarka's standout performance included a .533 hitting percentage with just two errors in 15 attempts. Sophomore middle blocker Megan Wilton finished with seven kills and four total blocks.
Army (14-6, 5-1 PL) out-blocked Bucknell (4-11, 1-5 PL) by a 12.0-3.0 margin, while the Bison totaled 24 kills and committed 26 errors for the match. Senior co-captain Rachel Willis' 8.0 total blocks marked a season-high for the Branford, Conn., native and led all players.
The Black Knights' offense struggled, along with Bucknell's, through the opening two sets. Both teams hit below .100. Army heated up in the third to hit .212 overall and total 12 kills.
Army's defense limited Bucknell's attack to a -.019 percentage. Senior co-captain Fabiola Castro led all players with 12 digs, while junior outside hitter Ariana Mankus totaled nine digs to go with a season-high four service aces.
The most competitive set of the match, the opening session featured eight ties and four lead changes. With junior Alicia Dotson at the service line, Army broke an 18-18 tie with three-straight Mankus kills as the Black Knights went ahead for good.
Army led by 21-14 score and seemingly had the second set in hand before Bucknell stormed back. The Bison used a 7-2 run to trim the deficit to 23-21 late in the contest. A solo block for Wilton and the ensuing Bucknell error ended the threat.
The Bison kept things close in the first half of set three, trailing Army 16-13. The Black Knights proceeded to score nine of the final 11 points en route to a convincing 25-15 victory to seal their fifth Patriot League win.
Colgate defeated Holy Cross by a 3-1 score on Friday night, leaving the Black Knights and Raiders in a tie for second place heading into Saturday night's showdown in Hamilton, N.Y. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
