Army volleyball head coach Alma Kovaci announced the addition of former Alabama standout setter Brigitte Slack to her staff as an assistant coach in February 2013. Slack comes to West Point with a diverse resume that also includes four years of overseas playing experience.

While assisting in all aspects of the program, Slack will mainly focus on developing the Black Knights' setters, which is a group that includes two-time Patriot League Setter of the Year Mary Vaccaro.

"We're extremely excited to have Brigitte on board," Kovaci said of Slack's hiring. "She is extremely passionate, driven and an extraordinary student of the game. She has proven abilities, leadership and character, and had a phenomenal playing career at Alabama and overseas. We're very lucky to have landed someone of her caliber in our program."

This will be Slack's first full-time coaching assignment, as she spent the better part of 2008-12 playing in the FIVB Professional League in Germany and Denmark. A two-time game MVP in the top German professional league, she started her overseas career with Danish Setter of the Year plaudits following her only season in Denmark.

Slack's time in the professional ranks came on the heels of a remarkable collegiate career during which she helped the Crimson Tide to three NCAA Tournament appearances and an SEC West Division title. A 2004 All-Freshman Team honoree, Slack earned SEC Academic Honor Roll citations twice. She remains the program's all-time assists leader with 5,578.

A native of Fort Wayne, Ind., Slack has nearly a decade of camp coaching experience at her alma mater as well as the University of Florida. When not playing on the professional circuit, she has spent the last two years as an assistant coach with the Fort Wayne Volleyball Club and at Concordia Lutheran High School.

"I could not be more thrilled with the opportunity to begin my time in the collegiate coaching ranks at such a prestigious and well-respected institution," Slack said upon her hiring. "From a coaching standpoint, this is a rare opportunity and one I look very forward to taking. The success of this program and its cadet-athletes make Army an exceptional place to start."

Slack earned a Bachelor of Science degree in human environmental sciences from Alabama in 2007. She holds professional credentials with the American Volleyball Coaches Association and is USAV Impact Certified.
