WEST POINT, N.Y.  – The Army women’s tennis team makes its home debut this weekend as the Black Knights host the West Point Invitational, Friday through Sunday. Main draw matches will be held at the outdoor Malek Courts while consolation matches will continue at the indoor Lichtenberg Tennis Center.

In Army’s second weekend tournament of tournament play, the Black Knights are set to host players from Bryant, Quinnipiac, St. Peter’s, Marist, Illinois, Farleigh Dickinson, Sacred Heart, LIU, Stony Brook, UConn, Seton Hall, Fordham and Albany for the 13-team affair. Play begins on Friday at 9 a.m. and concludes with the finals of both singles and doubles on Sunday.

“The weather is going to be beautiful, so it’s going to be a great weekend,” said head coach Paul Peck. “There is good competition and these matches are going to get us ready to see where we are and what we need to work on to get ready for the spring season. This tournament will help players earn a higher individual ranking, so we’ll see what happens. It should be a unique tournament and we’re excited.”

The weekend’s weather is calling for sunny skies and mild temperatures meaning the tournament will be played at Malek Courts.  Should the weather take a turn for the worse, the tournament will move to the Lichtenberg Tennis Center.

Army is coming off tournaments  at Stony Brook and Quinnipiac last weekend in which the teams split its forces in both.  Competing against a combined 16 teams, the Black Knights found success at Quinnipiac in both doubles and singles. Due Maragaret Iliev and Caroline Pitman registered three straight wins to secure the doubles championship title, while newcomer Taler Brazell enjoyed a solid collegiate debut in the Flight D singles bracket for the championship win.

Over at the Stony Brook Invitational, the tandem of Jamila Paul and Gabriella Spinlder advanced to the championship round of Flight A doubles where they fell to Fordham, 8-6.
