WEST POINT N.Y.  – Army’s doubles teams advanced into the championship round during the second day of the Quinnipiac and Stony Brook Women’s Tennis Invitationals. The Black Knights did not advance a player in singles completion at Stony Brook, while singles play at Quinnipiac continues into Sunday.

In flight A doubles at Stony Brook, Jamila Paul and Gabriella Spindler have advanced to the championship round after an 8-2 victory over Rhode Island’s Galina Chernykh and Taylor Holden. The championship game will be held Sunday against Fordham’s tandem of  Elliesa Ball and Sarah Ali.

In competition at Quinnipiac, the flight A doubles team of Margaret Iliev and Carolyn Pitman capture the championship title. After advancing in Friday’s match against Seton Hall’s Terry Alderman and Sarah Weinberg, the Army duo came were unbeaten in today’s match. After defeating Quinnipiac’s team of Rachel Horton and Sydney Young, 8-7, the Black Knights pulled out a 9-7 win over Iliev and Pitman to capture flight A doubles championship title with a hard fought 9-7 decision.

Taler Brazell and Kelly Daniel advanced to the semifinal round in Quinnipiac’s Flight B doubles competition on the strength of an  8-5 victory over Quinnipiac’s Tooley and Rodriguez. Army’s duo will play either Navy or Northeastern when doubles play resumes tomorrow.
