WEST POINT, N.Y.  – The Army women’s tennis team walked away from Lichtenberg Tennis Center on Friday night with two victories to add to their 2014 season. The Black Knights, who now boast a 10-1 record, defeated Farleigh Dickinson 4-3, followed by a 4-3 victory over Albany.

The Black Knights took a 1-0 lead to start the match versus the Knights on Friday afternoon as two Army doubles teams rendered wins. Senior co-captain Jamila Paul and sophomore Carolyn Pitman posted an 8-2 win over Ksenija Tihomirova and Gisela Castany in first doubles, while junior Elle Taylor and freshman Nancy Porter recorded an 8-6 victory in third doubles versus Mariya Krachok and Manuela Leme.

In addition, Paul recorded a singles win versus Ksenija Tihomirova to clinch the match over Farleigh Dickinson. The three-set victory opened with a 3-6 decision in Tihomirova’s favor, before Paul would bounce back to capture a 6-2 win in the second set and 7-6 (5) victory in the third.

In Army’s match versus the Great Danes on Friday night, Albany came out to capture the first point of the match by claiming two doubles victories.

After a win by default and a retired match, the Black Knights and Great Danes were tied at 3-3 with one singles match remaining between sophomore Maya Parker and Kirsten Scott in third singles. The Army sophomore came out to take the first match 7-6 (5) and went on to clinch the match with a 6-3 second set victory.

The Black Knights will continue to host at Lichtenberg Tennis Center for three matches next weekend on Friday, Feb. 28 and Saturday March, 1. Army will go up against NJIT at 4 p.m. on Friday and will finish out the weekend versus Marist at 10 a.m. and Quinnipiac at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
