WEST POINT, N.Y. - After sweeping the doubles point versus Fordham on Sunday afternoon, the Army women's tennis team went on to collect four singles victories to claim a 5-2 match win over the Rams. The Black Knights finished out their perfect 6-0 stretch at home as Army will turn to the road for its next competition.
After hosting both Stony Brook and UConn over the weekend, Army continued to dominate doubles competition, edging the Rams in all three bouts.
Senior co-captain Jamila Paul and freshman Ally Hayley highlighted singles play as both Black Knights players went into three-sets versus their Fordham competitors. Paul, who went up against Ellie Ball in first singles, fell 2-6 in the first set but barreled through to wins sets two (7-6 (6) and three (10-5) for the match.
In flight six singles, Hayley, who played against Fordham's Bella Genika, was also victorious in three-sets of play. Hayley took the first set 7-6, before falling to Genika, 7-3 in the second. In a third-set decision, the freshman singles player came back to capture the final set with a 10-8 victory.
Army now holds an 18-16 edge in the all-time series versus the Rams.
The Black Knights will travel to Amherst, Mass., on Saturday morning before returning to Lichtenberg Tennis on Sunday to host St. Bonaventure, Rutgers and Siena.
