WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army women’s tennis team will remain perfect at Lichtenberg Tennis Center this season as the Black Knights now hold a 5-0 record after recording a 6-1 victory over Connecticut on Saturday afternoon. Army will finish out the weekend at home when they take on Fordham on Sunday.
Able to capture the first point of doubles play, the Black Knights allowed the Huskies to only earn one singles match win on the day. Duo of Jamila Paul and Carolyn Pitman took on UConn’s Lucy Nutting and Srna Stosljevic in which Army came out with a 6-1 victory. In addition, Black Knights pair of Margaret Iliev and Carly Riney also registered a doubles win securing a 6-4 decision over Jennifer Learmonth and Maria Gargiulo.
Freshman Nan Porter and Learmonth highlighted singles play, as the match-up went into three sets. Porter registered the first-set win, 7-5, while Learmonth took the second-set 5-7, before Porter could claim the final set, 10-3.
The Black Knights will return to the court to host Fordham on Sunday at 1 p.m.
