WEST POINT, N.Y. - A trio of Army softball players were named to the All-Patriot League Team released by the conference office Wednesday. Senior outfielder Amanda Nguyen earned first-team honors with third baseman Kasey McCravey and freshman pitcher Caroline Smith were named to the second team.
It is the fourth straight year that Nguyen is a first-team team selection as an outfielder and second time that McCravey was chosen at third base.
Nguyen is just the third Black Knight to be a four-time first-team pick and the first since Army Hall of Fame outfielder Nicki Robbins(1999-2002). Nguyen, a starter in every game, is the school record holder for runs scored (160), hits (284), stolen bases (114), at bats (765) and games played (220). She also holds Patriot League career and season marks for stolen bases and hits.
After spending her first three years in left field, Nguyen moved to center field this spring. A slap hitter who is batting .353, she stroked a career-high four triples and four doubles in pacing the team with 59 hits. She is also the team leader in runs scored (35) and stolen bases (28). Nguyen heads to the tournament ranked second in the league in stolen bases, fourth in triples, fifth in hits and eighth in batting.
In Patriot League games, Nguyen posted a team-high .388 batting average and was errorless in 35 fielding chances.
McCravey led Army in batting this season with a .392 average, along with pacing the team in doubles (10), home runs (seven), runs batted in (43) and slugging percentage (.622). She was second on the team in hits (56) and among the leaders in stolen bases (17) and runs scored (21). In league games, she bated .327.
The two-time league all-star, chosen first team in 2013, ranks second in the conference in RBI, home runs and slugging percentage. McCravey's 43 RBI lists third on Army's single-season chart, just two shy of the record, and her mark for home runs is tied for third. She has stroked 79 RBI in her career to rank tenth on the school's all-time chart.
Smith has been solid in the circle among a young corps of pitchers this season, and her 12 wins are third in the league and just two shy of the leader. The freshman right-hander heads to the tournament with a 2.97 ERA along with a 12-11 mark in 132.0 innings. She has been involved in five shutouts, to include four solo efforts.
In conference games, Smith compiled a nifty 1.89 ERA and a 6-4 mark along with three solo efforts in 63.0 innings in the circle. Only 17 of 31 runs scored against her were earned.
Equally as effective offensively, Smith is batting .326 with six of her 29 hits going for extra bases, along with 11 runs batted in. In league games, she ranks second on the team batting .359.
Lehigh took four of the five major awards claiming Player of the Year (Morgan Decker), Pitcher of the Year (Emily Bausher), Defensive Player of the Year (Alexis Watanabe) and Coach of the Year (Frank Troy). Boston University's Brittany Younan was the league's Rookie of the Year.
Army heads to the Patriot League Tournament after cinching its fifth straight berth and 21st overall. The No. 4 Black Knights take on host and top-seed Lehigh on Thursday (May 8) at12:05 p.m. in the opening game. The second game at 2:35 p.m. is between No. 2 Boston University and No. 3 Bucknell.

Army has reached the championship finals the last two years, winning the title and automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament in 2013 after sweeping Lehigh in the championship round.
Army is 2-7 against the field, taking a game from Bucknell and newest member Boston University in the three-game series while being swept by Lehigh.
