WEST POINT, N.Y. - Army sophomore Alyssa Strobehn was among 12 student-athletes named to the Academic All-Patriot League Team announced Tuesday by the confernce office. A first-time honoree, Strobehn is the fourth Black Knight selected since the award was inaugurated in 2011.
Strobehn joins teammate Ali Cleinmark (2013), two-time pick Rachael Duval (2011-2012) and Natalia Gruenbaum (2011).
The Patriot League academic award, which recognizes players for their athletic and academic prowess, is voted on by the league's sports information directors. To be eligible for this honor, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average and be a starter or key player in his/her sport.
Strobehn, who had the second-highest GPA among the field with a 3.794 as a Mathematical Sciences major, handled Army's backstop duties in 35 of 42 games this season. Last spring the Dean's List student was named to the Patriot League's Academic Honor Roll.
Bucknell junior Cydnee Sanders was named the Patriot League Scholar-Athlete of the Year and was among a trio of Bison named to the All-Academic Team.
Strobehn is among nine members of the All-Academic Team competing Thursday in the Patriot League's Softball Tournament being hosted by top-seeded Lehigh. The Black Knights have drawn the Mountain Hawks in the opener at 12:05 p.m. on Thursday, May 10.
