The Army softball team posted a 4-1 mark last week, including a 3-1 Patriot League showing against Bucknell over the weekend, with RHP Morgan Lashley recording three wins posting a 0.45 ERA over 31.0 innings along with 23 strikeouts. Her standout performance earned Lashley her second Army Athletic Association Athlete of the Week citation this spring.
Lashley tossed two shutouts against Bucknell starting with a one-hit blanking in a 2-0 victory in the series opener on Saturday. The lone hit was a leadoff bunt as Lashley struck out three and issued three walks in seven innings.
The native of Davidson, N.C., was superb tossing a two-hit shutout in a 1-0 11-inning victory in Sunday's doubleheader opener. Recording a career-high 11 strikeouts, Lashley retired 18 straight batters (fanning six) after yielding her second hit of the game. She walked just three of the 37 batters faced.
Lashley was touched for three hits in her two wins in 18 innings in the circle against the Bison with just one reaching the outfield.
In Bucknell's lone win in the series finale, Lashley threw shutout ball scattering three hits along with three strikeouts in pitching the final four innings. In the Bucknell series, she posted a 0.00 ERA in 22 innings and was touched for just six base hits with eight walks and 17 strikeouts in holding the Bison to a stingy .090 batting average.
Lashley opened the week hurling nine innings in Army's 3-2 non-league win over Iona. With the score tied 2-2 in the top of the ninth with two outs and runners at second and third, she retired the side with a strikeout. Lashley faced 117 batters for the week holding opponents to a .143 batting average.
With 19 wins and 146 strikeouts this season, Lashley (2.39 ERA in 202.0 innings pitched) moved up the ladder on Army's career charts in both. She is second all-time in wins with 52, just eight shy of the leader, and her 383 strikeouts list third, 14 off of second place.
Army (24-20) closes out a seven-game home stretch hosting Yale in a non-league doubleheader Wednesday before heading to Lafayette (4-12 PL) this weekend to close out its regular-season Patriot League schedule as the Black Knights (8-8 PL) look to clinch a berth to the tournament in May.
