WEST POINT, N.Y. - Army second baseman Alee Rashenskas was tabbed the Patriot League Rookie of the Week by the conference office Monday afternoon. The Black Knight freshman batted .563, drove in seven runs and scored three times in earning rookie honors for the third time this month. Senior Amanda Nguyen, who batted safely in all five games as the Black Knights went 3-2 last week, earned honorable mention.
Rashenskas reached base in 12 of 19 plate appearances (.632) along with posting a .750 slugging percentage with three doubles among her nine hits. The native of St. Anne, Ill., went 9-for-16 hitting safely in four of five games last week to include batting .500 (5-for-10) in a three-game series with Boston University.
Over the weekend, Rashenskas keyed Army's inaugural 9-3 Patriot League win over Boston University going 4-for-4 with five runs batted in and scored once in the series opener. Rashenskas drove in three runs with a double in a four-run second and her second double of the game keyed a three-run third as Army pulled out to a 7-0 advantage. She scored the first of two runs in the sixth inning.
In Army's 9-3 non-conference win over Rider on Thursday, Rashenskas was 3-for-3 with a double and two runs scored.
Nguyen hit safely in all five games last week and is currently riding a nine-game hitting streak. She batted .444 posting multiple hits in three of the games to include a pair of hits in the last two games of the league series with Boston University going 4-for-8 with three runs scored and two RBI.
Army continues Patriot League play this weekend when it returns to the road for a trip to Hamilton, N.Y., to take on Colgate in a three-game series Saturday (April 4) and Sunday (April 5). The defending Patriot League Tournament champion Black Knights were picked third in the preseason poll and Colgate was fourth.
