After helping Army's softball team to a 4-4 showing at the Rebel Spring Games last week, freshman third baseman Kasey McCravey was tabbed the Patriot League's Rookie of the Week. It is the second time an Army player has been recognized by the league for weekly honors this season.
The Scottsdale, Ariz., native ranked among Army's offensive leaders during its weeklong stay in Florida. McCravey batted .370 (10-for-27), posted a .519 slugging percentage and a team-high nine runs batted in with three multiple-RBI games. She was second in hits (10), tied for second in runs (six) and hit safely in six of eight games.
McCravey drove in four runs and scored twice going 4-for-5 in a 12-6 come-from-behind win over Wagner as Army overcame a three-run deficit. She was 2-for-3 and knocked in a pair of runs with a two-run home run helping stake Army to a 3-0 lead against Rider the final day of competition. In the second game that day, she drove in a pair of runs and scored as Army held off Green Bay, 5-3.
In the split doubleheader with Rider and Green Bay, McCravey batted .500 (3-for-6) with four RBI and two runs scored as Army scored eight runs. In the field, McCravey made just one error in 35 chances.
For the season, McCravey is batting .345 as a starter in 17 games with a .509 slugging percentage. She leads the team in RBI (16) and home runs (two), is tied for the lead in doubles (three), is second in hits (19) and third in runs scored (12).
Earning honorable mention honors were Amanda Nguyen, who led the team in Florida with a .407 batting average (11-for-27) and nine runs, along with RHP Morgan Lashley, who posted a 1.86 ERA and 4-2 mark last week.
Army makes its home debut Wednesday afternoon hosting Fairleigh Dickinson in a doubleheader with first pitch at the Softball Complex starting at 3:30.
