WEST POINT, N.Y. - In spite of the snow and cold of the Northeast, the Army softball team has been busy preparing for its season opener next week when the Black Knights head to Texas to participate at the Houston Invite (Feb. 14-16).
The defending Patriot League Tournament Champion Black Knights have been busy working out at Foley Athletic Center in preparation for the tough challenge next weekend when they open their 36th intercollegiate season.
The Black Knights take on Stephen F. Austin in their season opener Feb. 14 at 12:30 p.m. followed by NCAA participant Nebraska at 8.pm. The next day they face the Lumberjacks (10 a.m.) for the second time at the tournament before closing with a pair of games against NCAA participant in host Houston (Feb. 15 at 5:30 p.m. and Feb. 16 at 12:30 p.m.).
Army and the Cougars are renewing last year's rivalry at the NCAA Austin Regional Tournament hosted by Texas. After suffering a 5-0 defeat to the Longhorns, who went on to close out the season ranked third nationally, Army threw a scare at Houston. Overcoming a 3-0 deficit, Army pulled ahead 4-3 before suffering a 7-5 defeat en route to closing out the season with a 35-26 mark.
