COLUMBUS, Ga. - Abbie Gottschall's RBI single and Jamie Gjurgevich's two-run double staked Army to a quick 3-0 lead over 15th-ranked Texas at the NFCA Leadoff Classic Saturday afternoon. The Longhorns rallied to defeat the Black Knights, 6-3, to close out pool play 1-2.

Army (0-3) scored its first run at the tournament, where half of the nations Top 25 teams are competing, in the top of the second when Lisa Huntington, who led off with a double, stole second and scored on Gottschall's two-out single to right field.

The Black Knights padded their lead to 3-0 with a pair of runs in the third as the top of the order came to bat. Lindsay March and Lauren Gobar ripped back-to-back hits off starter Lizi Sowers. Both moved up on Veronica Lauzon's infield groundout to set the stage for the cleanup batter. Gjurgevich's two-bagger deep to left field delivered both runners.

The Longhorns (10-7) rallied with four runs, all unearned, in the home half of the third. Sarah Wieszcak keyed that outburst with her two-run triple to tie the game, and then scored the go-ahead run on Wynter Turner's RBI single.

Sowers lost out on recording the win when Christina Gwyn took over the circle in the top of the fourth. Gwyn (1-4) did not give up a hit to the Black Knights the rest of the way while striking out three batters and issuing two walks. All five Army hits came off Sowers.

Starter Leigh Harrell gave up just one hit over the first two innings before being touched for four in that go-ahead third. The Longhorns padded their lead with two runs in the fifth inning.

Army dropping into the Bronze Championship will play an opponent not yet named at 4 p.m. followed by the exhibition game against the Olympic Team at 6:30 p.m.
