WEST POINT, N.Y. -
The fourth-seed Army women's soccer team will host fifth-seeded American in a quarterfinal round of the Patriot League Tournament on Tuesday, Nov. 5, at Clinton Field.
The Black Knights (8-7-3, 4-3-2 PL) concluded the regular-season Friday evening with a 2-0 upset win over tournament top seed Navy to open the door for hosting duties after moving into fourth place in the standings with 14 points.
Second-seeded Boston University's 1-0 edging of Bucknell and third-seeded Colgate's 2-1 decision over American on Saturday knocked the Bison (4-4-1) and Eagles (4-4-1) out of contender status as Army clinched fourth place and quarterfinal duties as host.
In addition to Army hosting American on Tuesday, Colgate (6-2-1) takes on sixth-seeded Bucknell in a quarterfinal round in Hamilton, N.Y., that evening as well.
The winners of the quarterfinals advance to Friday's (Nov. 8) semifinals being hosted by Navy in Annapolis, Md. The Midshipmen (8-1-0) and Boston University (8-1-0) earned a first round bye as the No. 1 and 2 seeds, respectively.
The Black Knights and American battled to a 0-0 double overtime draw at Clinton Field during the regular season.
Army's league wins are over Bucknell, 2-1 (2OT), Holy Cross, 2-1 (2OT), Lafayette, 3-1, and Navy, 2-0, while its losses are to Boston University, 1-0, Colgate, 2-1, and Lehigh, 1-0. The Black Knights are 2-2-1 against the six-team tournament field, and are the only conference team to score upon Navy this fall.
