WEST POINT, N.Y. -
The honors continue to pile up for Army women's soccer player Joey Molacek. The Army midfielder added a pair of honors to her collection Tuesday with her selection as the ECAC (Eastern College Athletic Conference) Division I Offensive Player of the Week, along with being named the College Sports Madness Patriot League Player of the Week.
That brought Molacek's total weekly honors to four to include a pair she earned Monday when she was named the Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week and co-shared the Army Athlete Association weekly honor. Molacek is the second Army player to earn ECAC honors this year, joining sophomore forward Katie Holder, who was named the Offensive Player of the Week for Sept. 16, and she is the first chosen for weekly honors by College Sports Madness.
Molacek sparked Army in both wins last week scoring three of five goals to to include a game winner, along with an assist in keying the Black Knights' come-from-behind conference wins over Holy Cross, (2-1 2OT), and Lafayette (3-1) that lifted them back into the Patriot League Tournament after a one-year hiatus.
The senior co-captain tallied twice in Army's midweek victory over Holy Cross, notching the equalizer (1-1) in the 81st minute, and then pulling up with the game winner off a corner kick with just five seconds remaining in the second overtime. It is the fourth time in her career that the native of Saugus, Calif., tallied twice in a game with the last three recorded against conference foes.
Three days later, the Black Knights found themselves trailing Lafayette 1-0 early in the match with Molacek again leading Army's comeback with a tally in the 23rd minute on a rebound conversion to tie the game 1-1. Army, scoring three unanswered goals in the win, scored a pair of second-half goals with Molacek assisting on the final goal in the decision for the Black Knights' highest output in league play this season.
Molacek ranks second on the team with five goals and an assist for 11 points, along with a game winner. The Army midfielder boosted her career mark to 19 goals with six assists for 44 points and five game winners.
Army (7-7-3, 3-3-2 PL) closes out regular-season play hosting conference rival and unbeaten Navy (8-0-0 PL, 15-3-0) Friday evening in the "Star" match at Clinton Field. Molacek will be among seven seniors being honored that evening.
