WEST POINT, N.Y. - Junior forward Kim An (Oak Ridge, N.J./Jefferson Township) had a hand in the scoring in all three matches last week, tallying five points (two goals, one assist), to earn Army Athletic Association Athlete of the Week honors. An is the first women's soccer player selected this season, while the AAA citation is her career fourth.
Army went 2-1-0 last week capped with a runner-up finish over the weekend at the Black Knight Classic on An's game-winner with just 45 seconds remaining in Sunday's 1-0 defeat of Syracuse. In Friday's opening round match, An's tally early in the second half tied the game with Iowa, 1-1, but the unbeaten Hawkeyes (8-0-0) defeated the Black Knights, 2-1, and went on to win the tournament. An's goal was just the third scored against the Hawkeyes, who have outscored their opponents 27-3 to remain the only unbeaten team in the Big Ten.
An's performance earned her a spot on the Black Knight Classic All-Tournament team for the third straight year. Earlier in the week, she assisted on freshman Anna Lail's goal in a 1-0 win over previously unbeaten Seton Hall (5-1-0).
Following last week's performance, An took over as Army's scoring leader with three goals and a pair of assists for eight points, along with a pair of game winners. She moved into sixth place on Army's career chart with 10 game winners, while her 22 goals are two shy of ninth place.
Army (4-4-0) returns to the road this weekend, traveling to California to participate in the Under Armour Classic hosted by Cal State Fullerton. The Black Knights take on the host school Friday (Sept. 14) evening and Long Beach State Sunday (Sept. 16) afternoon.
