WEST POINT, N.Y. – Sophomore forward Olivia Schretzman shined as Army’s most consistent player in women’s basketball 2-0 week which included a four-point victory at academy rival Air Force. For her efforts, Schretzman was tabbed the Army Athletic Association Athlete of the Week for the first time in her career.
Schretzman, who was also tabbed the Patriot League's top player by CollegeSportsMadness.com, averaged 15 points and 9.5 rebounds per game in a pair of Army wins last week as the Black Knights improved to 5-1, including 4-0 on the road. The forward was one of four Army players in double figures at Weber State on Wednesday night, tallying 12 points on 6-10 shooting along with nine rebounds.
At Air Force on Friday, Schretzman had her biggest game of the season with 18 points and 10 rebounds for her second double-double of the year. Eleven of the Dayton, Ohio native’s points came in the second half, including six in the final three minutes as Army clung to a single-possession lead.
For the week, Schretzman shot a team-best 64.7 percent from the floor, while her 19-rebound total, 15.0 scoring average and 80-percent shooting from the free-throw line all ranked second best on the squad.
Schretzman is the second women’s basketball player to be tabbed AAA Athlete of the Week this season, following freshman Aimee Oertner’s honor on Nov. 12.
Schretzman and the rest of the Army women’s basketball team will play back-to-back home games this week, first hosting Columbia on Wednesday at 7 p.m., followed by a showdown with Yale on Saturday at 3 p.m. Army is 1-1 this season on its home court at Christl Arena, most recently defeating Penn, 58-53, on Nov. 18.
