Army is 3-1 for the third time under seventh-year head coach Dave Magarity, and will look to remain undefeated in road games. Army most recently defeated Penn, 58-53, on Sunday for its first home victory of the season. The Black Knights’ other two wins came at Wagner (65-62) and at Fairleigh Dickinson (57-52). Weber State enters Wednesday night’s showdown with a 0-3 record, most recently dropping a 101-49 decision at Oklahoma State (11/18).
Last Time Out
The Black Knights held on to defeat visiting Penn, 58-53, on Sunday afternoon in a game which featured runs of 10-1, 9-0 and 16-2 and 11 lead changes. Army captured its first home win of the season after shooting a season-high 38.2 percent from floor, led by a combined 30-point effort from a pair of Army post players in sophomore Olivia Schretzman and freshman Aimee Oertner. Schretzman tallied a season-high 18 points, two shy of her career best, while Oertner snagged her third double-double with 12 points and a game-high 12 rebounds. Oertner’s 12 caroms match her career best. She also added four blocked shots.
Army Against First-Time Opponents
Army’s 2012-13 schedule features two teams the Black Knights have never faced before, including Weber State. Army’s other unfamiliar foe is Morgan State - that game is slated for Jan. 6 in Baltimore, Md. Since 1977-78, Army has gone 110-91 (.547) in games against opponents it had previously never faced. In 2011-12, head coach Dave Magarity and the Black Knights had two newcomers on their slate - Hawaii and Arizona State. Army defeated the Rainbow Wahine, 55-51, at Christl Arena, but lost in Tempe, Ariz., 83-46. Since Magarity took over prior to the 2006-07 season, Army has faced 12 new opponents, going 7-5 in those first-time matchups.
Army will reignite its academy rivalry with Air Force when the Black Knights travels to USAFA, Colo., on Friday. The two service academy foes will tip off at 8 p.m. (MST), with the winner gaining the advantage in the all-time series which is currently tied at 7-7. Army won the last USMA-USAFA showdown, 60-42 on Dec. 1, 2010, at West Point.
