WEST POINT, N.Y. – Army women’s basketball will make at least two national television appearances during the 2013-14 season as the Patriot League announced its CBS Sports Network schedule today. Both Army-Navy contests, as well as the women’s basketball conference championship game, make up the Patriot League’s three-game contract.
The first of two service academy tilts of the season is scheduled for Alumni Hall in Annapolis, Md., on Jan. 5, followed by the annual Star Game at West Point’s Christl Arena on Feb. 8. Both tip-offs are scheduled for 1:30 p.m. and are part of nationally televised doubleheaders with the men’s Army-Navy games which will follow at 4 p.m. The Patriot League Championship will be March 15 at 6 p.m. at the home court of the higher seed.
“It’s a great matchup to showcase Patriot League women’s basketball,” said eighth-year Army head coach Dave Magarity. “Army-Navy is one of the greatest rivalries in sports and to add to it that these are two programs coming off successful seasons, both earning postseason bids, makes the matchup that much more intriguing. It’s a great opportunity for our team to be seen by a wide audience, and great exposure for the Academy as a whole.”
The Black Knights will be making their first showing on national television since the 2011-12 season when both Army-Navy games were aired. Including the 2013-14 games, the annual academy rivalry contests will be aired nationally for the third time in four seasons.
The Patriot League and CBS Sports Network are entering the third season of a multi-year deal announced in June 2011 in which the Network airs Patriot League men and women's basketball, men's lacrosse and football. The Network also provides full coverage of the Patriot League Men's Lacrosse Tournament for the sixth consecutive year, with multiple regular-season games also televised. CBS Sports Network is televising a pair of Patriot League football games in 2013.
The Patriot League enters into its 11th straight year in partnership with CBS Sports Network.
