The Black Knights finished the regular season 22-7 overall and 14-4 in the Patriot League to place second. First-place Navy defeated Loyola to remain atop the league standings and collect the regular-season crown, while third-place American bested Bucknell to finish tied for second with Army. The Black Knights own the tiebreaker over the Eagles by virtue of sweeping the season series.
Army will go up against either No. 7 Boston University or No. 10 Loyola in the Patriot Tournament Quarterfinal round, as the Terriers and the Greyhounds will open the postseason tournament in the first round on Monday, March 4. The Black Knights' quarterfinal tilt is set for Thursday, March 6 at 7:30 p.m.
With the addition of Boston University and Loyola to conference, the Patriot League Tournament will feature a first round during which the No. 6 through No. 10 squads will compete for a spot the quarterfinals. First round action is scheduled for Tuesday before quarterfinal action on Thursday. The conference semifinals are slated for Monday, March 10, with the title game set for Saturday, March 15 at 6 p.m. All Patriot League Tournament games will be played at the home court of the higher seed.
Army's second-place finish marks the fourth time it has placed second or better since the Patriot League was founded in 1990. Last year, the Black Knights earned a share of the league crown with Navy, but held the tiebreaker to take the No. 1 seed. Army was the outright regular-season champion in 2005-06 before making the program's only trip to the NCAA Tournament. The Black and Gold finished second in 2006-07, but fell to Lehigh in the opening round.
