Army at Bucknell Game Notes Get Acrobat Reader

WEST POINT, N.Y.  –Army will begin the second cycle of Patriot League games at Bucknell on Saturday at 7 p.m. The Black Knights enter the second half of conference play with a 5-2 mark and in a tie with American for second place. Army (16-6) defeated the Bison, 68-60, in the league opener at West Point on Jan. 12, marking their third consecutive win against Bucknell. The Bison enter Saturday’s game with a 4-3 record, 13-9 overall, and in fourth place in the conference standings. After the loss to Army, Bucknell went on a four-game winning streak before dropping its final two contests before the break.

Army Scores 68-60 Win Over Bucknell In Conference Opener
For the ninth consecutive season, Army women's basketball began Patriot League play with a win, defeating Bucknell for the second consecutive year, 68-60, Saturday afternoon at Christl Arena. Three Black Knights scored in double figures led by senior Anna Simmer's 22, while junior Jen Hazlett recorded her first double-double of the season with 14 points and 11 rebounds.

Army-Bucknell Series
The Black Knights are eyeing their fifth series sweep of the Bison after winning the year’s first matchup, 68-60, at West Point on Jan. 12. Army led by as many as 18 with five minutes to play before the Bison went on a 13-2 run to get within single digits of the Black Knights. Army won both games during the 2012 season and is hoping for its first back-to-back series sweeps since 1990-91 and 1991-92. The Black Knights are 6-19 in games at Sojka Pavilion, including 2012’s 67-64 victory. Bucknell leads the all-time series, which dates back to 1983-84, 31-20.

A win at Bucknell would...
• Be Army’s 17th win of the season for its highest total since 2008-09
                The 2008-09 team went 19-12

• Be Army’s second consecutive series sweep of the Bison and fourth overall
• Be just the second time in series history Army earned back-to-back series sweeps of Bucknell

Last Time Out
Army finished the first seven-game cycle of Patriot League games with a 61-56 win at Lehigh, its first win at Stabler Arena since 2007. The Black Knights halted their two-game losing streak thanks to a resurgence by senior guard Anna Simmers who tallied a game-high 21 points despite getting into early foul trouble. Army is 5-2 through the first half of conference play for the first time since 2007-08 as the Black Knights sit in a tie for second place in the league standings. Simmers recorded her first double-digit scoring effort since going for 11 against Navy on Jan. 20 after averaging just 3.7 points per game the previous three contests. Army’s lone senior to see the court tonight, Simmers had a game-high 11 at intermission despite picking up her third foul with over four minutes remaining in the stanza. Army will play the first of just two home games in the month of February on Wednesday, Feb. 13, when Lafayette travels to West Point. The Black Knights won the first meeting of the season in Easton, Pa., 63-43, for their largest Patriot League win since besting Colgate by 20 in 2009. Tipoff at Christl Arena is slated for 7 p.m.
