WEST POINT, N.Y.  – Army freshman point guard Kelsey Minato reined in her seventh Patriot League Rookie of the Week certificate on Monday and fourth consecutive honor after helping the second-place Black Knights to a 1-1 record last week. Minato averaged 11 points, 2.5 rebounds and two steals per game in a setback to Holy Cross and rare win at Lehigh to give the Black Knights their highest win total since 2008-09.

The seven Rookie of the Week honors ties the Army standard set by Cara Enright (2004-05) and Lisa Russell (1991-92), and is one shy of the Patriot League record of eight set by Bucknell’s Lindsey Hollobaugh in 2003-04. Minato’s four consecutive certificates are the most in the conference since Enright collected five straight (Jan. 10, 2005 – Feb. 7, 2005), establishing a Patriot League record.

Minato notched back-to-back 11-point games against the Crusaders (Jan. 30) and Mountain Hawks (Feb. 2) to enter the conference’s bye week on an eight-game double-digit scoring streak. Despite being on everyone’s scouting radar now after seven league games, the Huntington Beach, Calif., native remains the leading scorer in Patriot League contests, averaging 16 points per game. Minato matched her season low of 27 minutes in Army’s first win at Lehigh since 2007 due to early foul trouble, but still managed to be one of four Black Knights in double figures.

The 16-6 Black Knights return to the court on Saturday at Bucknell. Army, in a tie for second place in the conference standings with a 5-2 record, defeated the Bison 68-60 in the first game of the season series at West Point on Jan. 12. Minato had 18 points and five rebounds in that game.
