Watch ITT Exelis Knight Vision Feature On Anna Simmers
WEST POINT, N.Y. - Twenty-four hours after authoring one of the best performances in the Patriot League this season, junior guard/forward Anna Simmers picked up her second Army Athletic Association Athlete of the Week citation of the season on Monday afternoon. Simmers poured in a career-high 28 points in a pivotal 66-64 upset win over Lehigh on Sunday at Christl Arena.
Simmers averaged 20 points and four rebounds a game over a 1-1 week for the Black Knights. She now owns the top two offensive performances among Patriot League performers this season, exploding for 28 points against Lehigh and 27 points at Bucknell earlier this season. Conference officials placed Simmers on the honorable mention list in Monday's weekly award announcement.
The Anchorage, Alaska, native scored 20 of her 28 points in the first half, helping the Black Knights to a 42-26 halftime lead over the Mountain Hawks. Her 28 points marked the third time she has reached the 20-point plateau this season.
Simmers added 12 points in a tough 62-59 setback at Holy Cross last Wednesday night. She enters the midway point of Patriot League play riding a nine-match win streak. She leads the team and ranks second in the Patriot League averaging 13.9 points per game. Simmers is averaging 19.6 points per game through seven Patriot League contests.
Simmers and the Black Knights have the next five days to prepare for Bucknell on Saturday, Feb. 4, marking the start of the second half of conference play. A 1 p.m. tip at Christl Arena is scheduled.
