Army 66, Manhattan 52
WEST POINT, N.Y. - Army women's basketball won its third straight on Wednesday night with a 66-52 victory over visiting Manhattan. Three Black Knights scored in double figures including sophomore guard Jean Parker, who totaled career highs in points, rebounds and assists, leading Army to its sixth consecutive regular-season win at Christl Arena.
Parker recorded 13 points, six rebounds and three assists in 26 minutes of action, all four figures being career bests. Senior Jen Hazlett snapped out of a two-game skid to score a team-high 18, while sophomore Kelsey Minato stretched her double-digit scoring streak to 20 games with a 14-point showing.
The Black Knights eclipsed the 40-rebound mark for the third time this season, winning the battle of the boards 46-30 as sophomore Olivia Schretzman led Army in caroms for the fourth time this year. Schretzman grabbed a game-high nine rebounds as her season average remained in double digits (10.3).
Army (3-1) led nearly wire-to-wire, with Manhattan (1-2) taking a 10-9 lead at 13:38, before Hazlett pushed the Black Knights back ahead 33 seconds later, where they would remain for the rest of the game. Minato made the Army advantage double digits with under a minute to play in the first by sinking one of her three three-pointers. The Black Knights led 34-23 at the break.
The Jaspers got no closer than nine the rest of the way, while Army's lead grew to as much as 24 with just under three minutes to play. The Black Knights nearly made it three straight games of an increased team shooting percentage, before missing their final four attempts from the floor. Army finished 27-of-65 for a 41.5-percent clip, its second-best field goal percentage of the season.
Along with her 18 points, Hazlett chipped in six rebounds and five assists. Minato added four dishes as well, while sophomore Aimee Oertner recorded her third-consecutive double-digit block performance with a pair of swats.
Army's four-game homestand wraps up Saturday when the Black Knights host Brown at 1 p.m. The Bears are 2-1 this season after defeating intra-state rival Bryant on Wednesday night, 66-61. Brown defeated Army last season in Providence, R.I., 48-45.
NOTES: Army has had at least three double-digit scorers every game this season ... the Black Knights open the year 3-1 for the third consecutive year ...
