WEST POINT, N.Y. -
The Army wrestling team will usher in the second half of its schedule on Jan. 1-2, when the Black Knights travel to Chattanooga, Tenn., to compete at the Southern Scuffle.
The two-day event, which will be contested inside McKenzie Arena on the UTC campus, is slated to begin on Tuesday, Jan. 1, and conclude on Wednesday, Jan. 2.
Action gets under way Tuesday at 10 a.m. CST, with quarterfinal action set for 6:30 p.m. that evening. Wednesday's wrestling is slated to begin at 10 a.m. CST, with the championship finals scheduled for 6 p.m. that night.
The competitive field features 19 programs that qualified for last season's NCAA Championships. Defending national champion Penn State, last year's NCAA runner-up Minnesota, along with Cornell and Oklahoma State headline the 21-team field.
Fans who wish to purchase tickets for the Southern Scuffle should call the UTC McKenzie Arena Ticket Office at 423-266-6627.
Army has been idle since defeating Drexel, 22-15, on Dec. 6. Junior 165-pounder Paul Hancock, whose pin helped spark the Black Knights' victory versus the Dragons, leads the team with a 15-5 overall record.
Senior Daniel Young, who is ranked at 149 pounds, lists second on the team with a 13-10 overall mark. Young and Hancock are tied for the team lead with six bonus-point victories this season.
The Black Knights have fared well in their first four tournament appearances of the season, placing fifth at the Buffalo Invitational, finishing third at the Oklahoma-Gold Classic, taking fifth at the New York State Championships and tying for 24th at the Cliff Keen Invitational.
Following the Southern Scuffle, Army will travel to Hampton, Va., to compete at the Virginia Duals (Jan. 11-12).
