WEST POINT, N.Y. - The Army wrestling team will begin postseason action this weekend (March 8-9) when it travels to Philadelphia, Pa., to compete at the 110th Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association (EIWA) Championships.
The tournament will be held at the Palestra on the campus of the University of Pennsylvania and will begin on Saturday at 10 a.m., with opening-day competition ending at 5:30 p.m. Sunday will feature a pair of sessions, including the championship semifinals and consolation fourth round, semifinals and finals from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. before the championship finals get underway at 4 p.m.
Fans who are unable to make the trip to Philadelphia can watch a live stream of the tournament through Flow Wrestling's subscription-based platform. All matches can also be followed on TrackWrestling.com. The official Twitter handle of Army Wrestling (@Army_Wrestling) will be updated throughout the weekend as well.
Army (8-4, 7-4 EIWA) was last in action on Feb. 21, when it dropped a 29-6 decision at service-academy rival Navy. Seniors Paul Hancock (157 pounds) and Ryan Tompkins (184) each notched victories against the Midshipmen.
Junior Chandler Smith (165) leads the Black Knights with 30 wins (30-10) on the year, while sophomore Brian Harvey (174) is second with 25 victories (25-9). Hancock, Tompkins and junior Cole Gracey (165) have also registered 20-plus wins, with 24, 21 and 21 triumphs, respectively.
Hancock paces Army with 11 bonus-point wins, including tying for first on the team with seven major decisions. Smith also has seven major decisions this season, while also notching a pair of falls.
Army placed sixth out of 14 schools at last season's EIWA Championships, and will look for its first league title since 1987. The Black Knights will also vie for their first individual champion since Matthew Kyler won the 149 pound title in 2010.
Following this weekend's tournament, Army will wrap up its 2013-14 campaign at the NCAA Championships, which will take place from March 20-22 at Chesapeake Energy Arena in Oklahoma City, Okla.
