PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Sophomores Bryce Barnes (197 pounds) and Brian Harvey (174) each went without a loss in the championship bracket, while three other members of the Army wrestling team will advance in the consolation bracket during Saturday's action at the 110th Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association (EIWA) Championships at The Palestra.

Barnes clinched a berth in his second-straight NCAA Championships, as he can finish no lower than fifth in the 197 pound weight class. Seven of the EIWA's 47 automatic NCAA bids are allocated to 197 pounds, giving Barnes an automatic bid regardless of where he finishes tomorrow.

Also advancing to Sunday are seniors Paul Hancock (157), Tyler Rauenzahn (141) and Ryan Tompkins (184), who all went 2-1 to earn a spot in the quarterfinals of their respective consolation brackets. The Black Knights finish day one in sixth place out of 18 schools with 45.0 points. Cornell stands atop of the field after Saturday with a total score of 92.0.

Seeded ninth entering the tournament, Barnes advanced to the semifinals of the championship bracket with an 8-0 major decision over Lehigh's John Bolich and an 8-6 victory against top-seeded Brandon Palik of Drexel. Barnes will face No. 5 Cody Reed from Binghamton in his first match tomorrow.

Harvey, who is seeded fifth in the 174 pound field, also advances to Sunday's championship semifinals after picking up wins over Franklin and Marshall's Colin Gironda (technical fall, 18-0) and Cornell's George Pickett, seeded fourth (4-1). Harvey will go up against eighth-seeded Bradley Wukie of Penn in his opening bout on Sunday for a chance at an NCAA berth.

Hancock, who entered Saturday as the No. 5 wrestler in the 157 pound bracket, opened competition with a 2-0 decision over American's John Boyle, but fell to an 8-7 defeat versus Drexel's Austin Sommer in his second match of the day. Hancock responded with a 6-2 victory over Zach Johnson of Navy to stay alive in the consolation bracket. Hancock can reach the NCAAs with a victory over No. 8 Anthony Perrotti from Rutgers in Sunday's consolation quarterfinal.

Tenth-seeded Rauenzahn took down Bucknell's Connor Lapresi (8-2) to begin his tournament before slipping up to No. 2 Michael Nevinger of Cornell (8-4). Rauenzahn ended the day with a win over Princeton's Jordan Laster (9-3) to grab a spot in the consolation quarterfinals. Rauenzahn can earn an NCAA bid with a win over sixth-seeded Tyson Dippery of Rutgers on Sunday.

Tompkins began the day as the fourth-seed wrestler at 184 pounds, but dropped a 5-2 decision to Harvard's Cameron Croy to immediately drop to the consolation bracket. Tompkins strung together a pair of wins after his opening setback, collecting victories over Sacred Heart's Conan Schuster (fall, 0:36) and American's Jason Grimes (6-2). Tompkins will need to defeat sixth-seeded Zack Hernandez from Columbia on Sunday and his next opponent to clinch a top-four finish and an automatic NCAA berth.

Competition at the EIWA Championships will resume Sunday morning at 10 a.m.
