WEST POINT, N.Y. – Army men’s tennis will play in its final tournament of the fall 2013 season this weekend when the Black Knights travel to the Harvard Halloween Invite. The last of seven events, Army will look to end the calendar year on a high note as it faces off against opponents from Bryant, Brown, Dartmouth, MIT, Boston University, Tufts and the host Crimson.
Singles matches will kick off the weekend as senior Asika Isoh was face Brown’s Justin To, while freshman Sam Lampman is set to take on Harvard’s Kelvin Lam in the A Flight. In the B Flight, senior Rommel Verano will play Eli Whittle of Brown and freshman Grant Riechmann is paired opposite Dartmouth’s Blake Niehaus.
Army most recently sent players to the Patriot League Kickoff, hosted by conference foe Lehigh last Saturday and Sunday. Select Black Knights played in matches opposite the host Mountain Hawks, as well as representatives from Lafayette and Colgate. Army went a combined 12-10 in singles play and 7-4 in doubles against league opponents last weekend.
Junior Roman Cacha earned a pair of singles victories against Lehigh’s Tyler Hansen and Colgate’s Nick Laub, while freshman Kyle Barnes and sophomore Austin McCasin teamed for a 2-0 doubles mark. Senior Chad Llewellyn, who went a combined 3-1 last weekend, has a team-best four (4-2) singles wins this fall, as does Riechmann. Barnes and McCasin lead Army’s doubles contingent with a 4-3 mark.
Despite the end of fall tennis, Army will play in one more event prior to the start of the dual season in February. The Black Knights will lift the lid on 2014 at the Dallas Shootout, Jan. 10-12. Army’s first dual match is set for Feb. 1 against Monmouth at West Point’s Lichtenberg Tennis Center.
