WEST POINT, N.Y. - Army golf freshman Peter Kim and men's tennis junior Alex Van Velzer were honored as the Army Athletic Association Athletes of the Week following their performances in their respective conference tournaments this past weekend.
Kim was named Patriot League Most Outstanding Golfer and Most Outstanding Rookie after capturing medalist honors at the Patriot League Tournament on Saturday and Sunday. Kim also carded the lowest 18-hole score of the tournament with a 66 during the second round. He earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Regionals where he will compete as an individual.
Van Velzer drew Patriot League Tournament MVP honors after winning three matches in straight sets during the event and helping the Black Knights secure their sixth conference title. The junior competed at the No. 5 singles position and posted wins of 6-0, 6-1 and 6-0, 6-3 against Lafayette and Lehigh before recording a 6-0, 6-1 decision over Navy's Krisna Jana in Sunday's championship. He also competed at the top doubles position during all three rounds of the tournament alongside senior Asika Isoh.
