With four regular-season matches remaining and just two Patriot League contests left, the Army men's tennis team will travel to face service-academy rival Navy on Saturday at 1 p.m.
Army (15-4, 5-0 PL) has collected seven straight wins leading up to this weekend, and currently sits atop to the Patriot League standings. Boston University is second with a 4-0 conference record, while Navy is third at 2-1.
The Black Knights are coming off a 7-0 win over Loyola on April 6. Army won all nine matches against Loyola, including singles wins by sophomores Caison Best, Ben Davies, Austin McCasin and Harrison McCormick, and freshmen Kyle Barnes and Grant Riechmann. In doubles action, McCormick and Riechmann paired up for an 8-2 win at the top position, while the tandems of Barnes and McCasin, and Best and Davies posted victories from the second and third flights, respectively.
Riechmann paces the Black Knights with 13 singles wins in dual matches this year, while classmate Sam Lampmann is second on the team with 12 wins. Barnes and McCasin have been Army's top doubles team this spring, with a 14-6 showing, while McCormick and Riechmann are close behind with an 11-2 mark.
Navy (15-8, 2-1 PL) is fresh off a 6-1 victory over Lafayette on April 6. In the match, the Midshipmen received singles wins from juniors Blake Daniel and Calvin Mark, sophomore Austin Jones and freshmen Krishna Jana and Tyler Tossavainen. Navy earned the doubles point by sweeping past the Leopards in doubles competition.
Mark leads the Midshipmen with 17 dual match wins in singles play, while Daniel and Mark make up the team's top doubles pair, with a dual match record of 14-2.
Navy leads Army, 59-33, in the all-time series, including a 10-5 mark in Patriot League Tournament matches. The Black Knights and Midshipmen split a pair of matches last season, with Army earning a 4-3 win in the "Star" Match on April 7, 2013, before Navy won, 4-3, in the Patriot League Semifinals on April 20, 2013.
Following Saturday's trip to Navy, Army will close out its regular season with matches at Marist (4/15), versus NJIT (4/17) and at Boston University (4/19). The Black Knights will host the Patriot League Tournament on April 25-27.
