Winners of four straight heading into the weekend, the Army men's tennis team will host Fairfield in a nonconference match on Sunday, March 30. The match will be contested at Lichtenberg Tennis Center with a scheduled start time of 12 p.m.
Army (12-4) will be in action for the second time in three days on Sunday, as it defeated Sacred Heart, 7-0, in its most recent outing on March 28.
Doubles competition featured a pair of Army wins, including an 8-5 victory at the top position by sophomore Harrison McCormick and freshman Grant Riechmann. Also winning for the Black Knights was the No. 2 duo of sophomore Austin McCasin and freshman Kyle Barnes, who collected an 8-1 win.
Army took all six singles matches, including five that came in straight sets. Junior Roman Cacha (No. 4) and sophomore Ben Davies (No. 6) each blanked their opponent in the opening set of their respective matches en route to wins of 6-0, 6-4 and 6-0, 6-2. Freshman Sam Lampman (No. 1), Riechmann (No. 2) and junior Peter Sienko (No. 3) also won in straight sets, while Barnes rallied for a 5-7, 6-2, 10-7 win at No. 5.
Fairfield (8-3) is coming off a 6-1 win over Quinnipiac back on March 20 to improve to 4-1 in its last five matches. Senior Ian Tesmond and junior Cameron Amyot, and senior Bjorn Merinder and sophomore Ofir Solomon each grabbed wins in doubles action, while five Stags secured victories in singles play. Among Fairfield's singles winners were Tesmond (No. 1), Solomon (No. 3), senior Dennis Zlobinsky (No. 4), Amyot (No. 5) and Merinder (No. 6).
Army is 5-1 in all-time matches against Fairfield, most recently earning a 5-2 victory over the Stags on Feb. 22, 2013.
Following Sunday, the Black Knights will begin a four-match road trip beginning with a Patriot League contest at Lehigh on Saturday, April 5 at 11 a.m.
