CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Army freshman Harrison McCormick was tabbed the Patriot League Men’s Tennis Player of the Month as the conference announced February’s awards on Sunday evening. McCormick boasted undefeated records in both singles and doubles play through his first month of intercollegiate dual matches.
McCormick’s 5-0 singles record is highlighted by his first collegiate dual win, coming at No. 56 Arkansas on Feb. 1, when he defeated Peter Thomason in three sets, 7-5, 2-6, 10-6, at the No. 6 position. McCormick was responsible for Army’s lone point in the 6-1 setback, but also earned the doubles win alongside junior Asika Isoh, 8-7 at No. 2.
Isoh and McCormick are 9-0 so far this season and were 4-0 in the month of February. McCormick also clinched a doubles win alongside classmate Caison Best on Feb. 2 against Oral Roberts. Through Sunday’s pair of matches, McCormick shows an 8-0 singles record.
Harrison is Army’s first Men’s Tennis Player of the Month since February 2010, when former team member Gary Kushnirovic was tabbed. The certificate is the seventh won all-time by a Black Knight which ranks second-most behind Navy.
Harrison and the rest of the Black Knights will hit the road for its next four matches as Army will travel to central Florida for spring break. The Black Knights will play Appalachian State in a neutral-site contest on March 10 in Orlando, Fla., and will follow with matches against Central Florida, Bethune Cookman and Northern Illinois.
