WEST POINT, N.Y. – Army men’s tennis will have its busiest weekend of the dual season thus far when the Black Knights host Boston University, Sacred Heart, Quinnipiac and Monmouth at Lichtenberg Tennis Center. The match against the Terriers will begin the feverish stretch on Friday as the first serve is set for 2 p.m.
Army (4-2) will look to rebound from a 4-3 loss to regional rival Marist on Sunday afternoon. The setback to the Red Foxes halted a four-match winning streak by the Black Knights.
Army defeated BU in last season’s showdown, 5-2, in a rare opportunity to use the Black Knights’ outdoor courts of Malek. Army is 4-2 all-time against its soon-to-be Patriot League foe, in a series which dates back to 1922.
Army maintained its all-time undefeated record (13-0) against Monmouth with a 7-0 sweep of the Hawks in 2012. MU is 0-2 so far this dual season and will play one match prior to the showdown with Army, which is scheduled for Sunday at 5 p.m.
Quinnipiac and Sacred Heart are unfamiliar foes of the Black Knights as Army has never played a dual against the Bobcats and have squared off with the Pioneers just once. Sacred Heart defeated Army 5-2 early in the 2011 season, while the Pioneers currently show a 3-4 record as winners of their last two. Quinnipiac enters the match with Army with a 1-3 record, but will play Connecticut prior to the contest with the Black Knights.
Army will face Sacred Heart on Saturday at 1 p.m., and Quinnipiac Sunday at 9 a.m.
Following this weekend’s busy stretch, Army will pack its bags for Florida where the Black Knights will spend Spring Break. Army will play four matches down south, including neutral-site contests against Appalachian State and Northern Illinois, and away matches opposite Central Florida and Bethune Cookman.
