CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Army men’s tennis concluded the fall tournament season on Sunday as the Black Knights wrapped up a weekend stay at the Harvard Halloween Invite. Newcomer Grant Riechmann highlighted the Army performances as the freshman claimed the Flight B Singles title on Sunday afternoon.
In the first round, Riechmann knocked off Dartmouth’s Blake Niehaus in straight sets, 6-1, 6-3, to advance to the semifinals where he faced Brown’s Eli Whittle. Riechmann defeated Whittle, 6-5, 6-3, to earn a bid into the finals. There, the Army plebe knocked off Dartmouth’s Max Schmidt in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3, to finish his first collegiate fall campaign with a 7-3 singles mark.
Riechmann also teamed with classmate Sam Lampman for an 8-5 doubles victory over Bryant’s Dana Parziale and Ernesto Arguello in the first round. After being eliminated in the second round, the freshman duo wrapped up the fall with a 4-4 record.
Despite the end of fall tennis, Army will play in one more event prior to the start of the dual season in February. The Black Knights will lift the lid on 2014 at the Dallas Shootout, Jan. 10-12. Army’s first dual match is set for Feb. 1 against Monmouth at West Point’s Lichtenberg Tennis Center.
