WEST POINT, N.Y. - Yale played spoiler to Army men's tennis in the Black Knights' first home fall tournament since 2010 as the Bulldogs won nine of 10 head-to-head matches. Hosting Yale, BC and St. Bonaventure over the weekend in a round-robin style tournament, the Black Knights' day was spent battling with the Bulldogs as well as squaring off with the Bonnies in doubles play.
Army won two of four doubles matches against St. Bonaventure, both with decisive scores. Sophomore David Proctor teamed with junior Roman Cacha for an 8-3 victory over Timothy DeSanto and Trevor Haskell, while Sam Jang-Milsten and Joey Hatala defeated Hristo Hristov and Jacob Mishkin, 8-2.
Yale swept all seven singles matches from Army, which included three matches forced into three sets. Sophomore Caison Best fought hard for three sets, as has become typical for the second-year player. Best fell to Photos Photiades, 2-6, 7-6, 10-6.
In doubles play against the Bulldogs, plebe duo Sam Lampman and Grant Riechmann knocked off Photiades and Alex Hagermoser, 8-6, to prevent the complete sweep.
Over the course of two days, Army compiled a 12-13 singles mark and 5-7 doubles record against the three regional foes.
Following this weekend, Army will play at the ITA Regional Championships in New Haven, Conn., Oct. 16-22.
