Army Has Strong Showing In First Day Of West Point Shootout

WEST POINT, N.Y. – Hosting its first fall tournament since 2010, Army men’s tennis got off to an impressive start on Saturday at the West Point Shootout. Playing inside the friendly confines of Lichtenberg Tennis Center, the Black Knights claimed 13 singles and two doubles victories against St. Bonaventure and Boston College.

Freshman Grant Riechmann earned a pair of singles victories for the Black Knights, topping Kyle Childree of Boston College, 6-4, 6-1, and Elliot Fanshel of St. Bonaventure, 7-5, 6-4. Riechmann also teamed with Henry Jang-Milsten for an 8-4 victory over Childree and Hank Workman in doubles play.

Overall, Army went 6-4 in singles against Boston College and 6-2 against St. Bonaventure. The Black Knights went 2-3 in doubles against the Eagles, with freshman Kyle Barnes and sophomore Austin McCasin earning the other duo victory.

Army will play doubles matches against the Bonnies tomorrow morning at 9 a.m., as well as both singles and doubles against Yale later in the day. See below Sunday’s full schedule.
