Men's Tennis Advances To PL Semifinals With 4-0 Win Over Lafayette

WEST POINT, N.Y. - The top-seeded Army men's tennis team swept past eighth-seeded Lafayette, 4-0, in a Patriot League Tournament Quarterfinal match on Friday morning at the Malek Tennis Courts. The Black Knights improve to 18-5 and advance to tomorrow's semifinal round, while the Leopards finish the year 5-11.

Army's No. 2 doubles pairing of freshman Sam Lampman and Grant Riechmann collected an 8-1 win over Lafayette's Jake Lazer and Brian Pinkard before Army sophomore Austin McCasin and freshman Kyle Barnes posted an 8-1 victory over Chris Matturri and Gavin Studner at No. 3 to secure the doubles point for the hosts.

Army junior Alex Van Velzer was the first to top his opponent in singles play, taking a 6-0, 6-1 decision at No. 5 before Lampman blanked Pinkard, 6-0, 6-0, at the second singles flight. Sophomore Harrison McCormick clinched the win for the Black Knights with a 6-0, 6-1 win in the No. 6 match. Army returns to action tomorrow in the Patriot League Tournament Semifinals, when it will face the winner of Saturday's quarterfinal match between No. 4 Lehigh and No. 5 Colgate.
