WEST POINT, N.Y. – Army men’s tennis closed out the non-league portion of its schedule on Tuesday afternoon with a 4-3 win over visiting Stony Brook. The Black Knights halted their three-match losing streak, recording their first win since March 3 while keeping the Seawolves winless at 0-6.
Army won the doubles point for the seventh consecutive match as junior Asika Isoh and Harrison McCormick claimed their team-leading 11th doubles victory of the spring. The duo defeated Mons Knudtzon and Jose Morales at No. 1, 8-4. Rashad Shelton teamed with Austin McCasin for a win at No. 2, while Peter Sienko and Henry Jang-Milsten paired at No. 3 to win as the Black Knights swept all three matches.
Sienko and Jang-Milsten improved to 8-4 in duals while Shelton and McCasin jumped to 6-4.
Sienko and Isoh also secured singles victories on the afternoon. Sienko knocked off Robert Forai at No. 4 in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2, while Isoh provided the match-clinching point at No. 1. Isoh outlasted Rick Timmerman in three sets, 6-1, 4-6, 6-3, to end the Black Knights’ non-conference schedule on a high note. Isoh rounded out non-league matches with a 9-3 record.
Army will host a trio of Patriot League opponents this weekend beginning with Lafayette at noon on Friday. Also coming to Lichtenberg Tennis Center are Holy Cross (Friday, 8 p.m.) and Lehigh (Sunday, 9 a.m.).
