WEST POINT, N.Y. – Army men’s tennis completed its weekend sweep with a pair wins on Sunday, topping Connecticut and Vassar with 5-2 and 6-1 decisions, respectively. The Black Knights, hosting their first home matches of the season, used the friendly confines of Lichtenberg Tennis Center to bump their season record to 3-2.

Army captured the doubles point in both matches on Sunday, beginning by winning two-of-three matches against the Huskies (1-2) before sweeping all three against the Brewers (3-1). Sophomores Asika Isoh and Henry Jang-Milsten went 3-0 throughout the whole weekend, following Friday’s win with an 8-3 win against UConn’s Scott Warden and Jacob Spreyer and an 8-4 win over Vassar’s Guzick brothers. The duo improved to 8-7 in 2011-12.

Isoh also earned his team-best eighth singles win of the season by topping Warden in straight sets (6-4, 6-0) at No. 1 singles.

Freshman Alex Van Velzer, who clinched Army’s win over Stony Brook, was the lone Black Knight to play singles in all three of the weekend’s matches, posting a flawless 3-0 mark. Van Velzer followed Friday’s win with a 6-0, 6-4 victory over Connecticut’s Spreyer at No. 2 singles. Jumping to No. 1 singles against Vassar, the freshman won in a hotly contested match, defeating Andrew Guzick, 3-6, 6-4, 6-1.

Freshman Roman Cacha made his collegiate dual match debut, knocking off Vassar’s Nick Jasso at No. 4 singles in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2.

Army improved to 10-2 all-time against UConn, with Sunday’s win ending the Huskies’ two-match winning streak against the Black Knights. Against the Brewers, Army maintained its hold on the all-time series, boasting a 4-0 record.

Army will hit the road once again next weekend when it travels to Dayton, Ohio for a trio of neutral-site contests. The Black Knights will face Ball State and Lipscomb on Feb. 18, before capping the weekend with a showdown opposite Academy rival Air Force on Feb. 19.
