The pairing of sophomore Austin McCasin and freshman Kyle Barnes collected one victory at the Challenger of Dallas Doubles Wildcard Shootout on Friday to advance to Saturday's action before bowing out in the Round of 16 on Saturday at the T Bar M Racquet Club.
Barnes and McCasin posted a 6-2, 6-0 victory on Friday before falling 6-3, 6-3 in Saturday's Round of 16. Army's three other doubles groups were eliminated in the opening round, but each won a set in their respective matches to avoid a defeat in straight sets.
Senior Asika Isoh and sophomore Harrison McCormick won their opening set, 6-2 before slipping by the same margin in the second frame. The duo kept things close in the third set, but ultimately fell to a 10-8 defeat. The freshmen pairing Sam Lampman and Grant Reichmann also claimed a 6-2 win in their first set, but dropped a 6-3 decision in the second to tie the match at one set apiece. Lampman and Reichmann were unable to rebound from their second-set defeat, as they suffered a 10-5 setback in the third set. Seniors Henry Jang-Milsten and Rommell Verano picked up a 7-6 win in their second set before losing by a count of 6-4, 6-7 (3), 10-5.
Army kicks off its dual match schedule on Saturday, Feb. 1, when it hosts Monmouth for a 1 p.m. match.
